The Sebel Manly Beach – a wonderful club experience

With many thanks to our efficient and effective Members Services team, I recently stayed three nights at the new Club venue at The Sebel  Manly Beach.

I cannot speak too highly about my wonderful stay.

From the outset, the front office staff were so friendly, efficient  and helpful. The room was wonderful – so clean and what a view!
The café next door was great – not run by the Hotel but the ambiance, food (excellent coffee) and view was outstanding.

The Corso and Manly Wharf are all a very easy walk away as is Shelley Beach and Manly Bower.

I had such a good time that the Member Services Team have organised another stay in 2017.

What A Night?

Silvana and I attended your recent workshops, one in Canberra and the most recent one at Novotel Brighton Beach, Sydney. I suppose, over the 13years of our membership, we’ve attended, maybe, 5 or 6 of them. We are still learning and today we received a welcome call from Linda who was able to answer all the questions we had, that stemmed, from both these workshops. Steve is a very entertaining speaker and he taught us a lot.

Please, we must congratulate you and your team for such a wonderful afternoon and evening on Saturday. The band was excellent, we did our thing on the dance floor, Sam made us all laugh, the catering staff looked after us all and how, on earth’s name did it happen – we won the door prize of the 5 night Agift holiday. it was unbelievable.

It was lovely to meet some of our club representatives over those two days.

You’re a happy infectious team and you can be well satisfied on a job well done.

Novotel Sydney Member Event

I had the pleasure of attending the member workshop held at the Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach on the afternoon of Saturday 27 June and the social event that evening.

The workshop was entertaining, courtesy of the hilarious comedian, and informative, thanks to Steve.

The social event was very entertaining and enjoyable thanks again to the comedian and a great band. The catering was plentiful with a good variety of finger food.

I would like to commend the organisers for providing an informative and entertaining event which I felt was consistent with both the recreational and professional image of the Accor Vacation Club.

Melbourne Pullman Member Event

Rachael and I both had an absolutely brilliant afternoon and evening at the Melbourne Pullman on Saturday 11 April 2015.

The afternoon presentation provided all members with invaluable information and booking strategies, for which we are very grateful.

Regarding the evening entertainment we have not had such fun in a very long time. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as did all the other members we were fortunate enough to engage with on the day. The live band were fantastic and we can only conclude by recommending that Accor Vacation Club members in other states embrace the opportunity to attend this event.

A relaxing week in Coffs Harbour at the Pacific Bay resort

Just back from a relaxing week in Coffs Harbour at the Pacific Bay resort (6/4/ – 13/4). Apart from great accommodation and an endless range of activities available at the resort eg hone your short game skills on the three golf course, ride the segways around the resort, visit the Solitary Island aquarium or just relax at the pools. Just a short trip down the road to the Big Banana (the banana crepes are to die for). Old and young alike love the antics of the seals and dolphins at Dolphin Marine Magic. For a little retail therapy a trip to Bellingen to visit the Yellow shed is a must.

We also managed to fit in a visit to the Coffs Harbour butterfly house and  Carobana Confectionary where we watched honeycomb being hand- made – the highlight was the taste testing.

The trip would not be complete without a walk around the harbour and up to the look out on Mutton Bird island and top it off with a feed of fish and chips fresh off the boats.

Back home again couple of kilos heavier and planning the next stay at another Accor resort latter in the year.

The best lifestyle investment

We have just returned from another great, relaxing stay at the Vintage resort in the Hunter Valley. A fabulous, quality place to stay, as are all of the properties our family have stayed at during our club membership. Over the years we have stayed at Puka Park NZ, Pinnacle Valley Resort, Victoria, Grand Mercure Apartments, Melbourne, The Sebel Swan Valley, WA, Legends, Gold Coast, Pinnacle Apartments, Sydney and Grand Mercure Bowral. Our family have also enjoyed many stays at a number of properties such as Novotel Barossa Valley SA, as part of the innovative Accor Hotel Select programme the club now offers. The cruise department helped us plan our successful first cruise and we have just booked another cruise with them. Wow!! There are so many benefits of the club. Accor Vacation Club membership is the best lifestyle investment we have made.

Nine years with AVC and loving it!

We have been members of Accor Vacation Club from the inception of the Club and we thought it might be prudent to bring you up to date with what our experiences have been over the past 9 years or so.

Firstly, when we joined, we were building our accounting practice from scratch and never really had time or money for decent holidays. Accor Vacation Club not only showed us an opportunity to reward ourselves on a regular basis but also made it affordable to purchase the package with a very attractive payment scheme. We began with Bronze but as we became more profitable in the business and also once we had the bug for great holidays, we have progressively increased our level of membership to Platinum 6.

We now regularly take holidays, a few times a year in fact, mostly within Australia and New Zealand and have used Interval International as well a few times. The last time was a magnificent European trip which also included a week in Paris and a week in Italy, both weeks were booked using Club Points via Interval International.

We are at present booked for a week in Melbourne (Flinders Lane) in July (our 25th wedding anniversary) and hopefully either a week in the Hunter Valley or Queenstown NZ in October.

Next year, we are taking my sister to Italy and will definitely be booking our Italian leg with Interval. We hope to do a cruise one day, but the only thing stopping us is “time”.

It was the best thing we did all those years ago, when we popped out to Twin Waters for a 90 minute Information Session and signed up on the spot.

Lastly, we find using the Club Member’s site on the internet, very easy and it’s great because you can access it 24/7, even if it’s just to do a bit of “dreaming”. A very handy tool for forward planning. The standard of the Club properties is excellent and we regularly recommend them to our friends for their holidays.

 Vacations of a Lifetime!

My wife and I always talked about our ‘dream holiday’ and since joining Accor Vacation Club we have not only saved money every year, but have now ticked off the first of our ‘dreams’.

May we introduce ourselves? We are Frank and Audrey Browne and have been Members of the Accor Vacation Club since May 2003. If you are contemplating becoming a member or have just joined, may we welcome you and strongly recommend the club as we have never looked back since becoming Members.

Our initiation into the Club was from a friendly telemarketer (Whom I don’t usually have time for) offering two nights accommodation for attending a presentation. Being a shift worker and my wife a Brisbane commuter we said no as the dates and times were unsuitable. Two weeks later we received a call from the same lady but with alternative dates and times. We said yes to a Saturday appointment and went with the idea that it would not hurt to listen. The rest is history.

No hard pressure sales pitch, all our questions answered and done in a friendly environment.

Since becoming Members we have stayed in the followingClub Apartments;

LEGENDS HOTEL SURFERS PARADISE – Gold Coast

HOTEL ST MORITZ QUEENSTOWN – New Zealand

GRAND MERCURE PINNACLE – Darling Harbour NSW (Twice).

At the Darling Harbour Apartments’ we were fortunate enough to talk to some prospective Members and answer some of their questions to put their minds at ease. This was a real buzz for us to help promote our Club.

Through Interval International we used our points to secure weeks at;

WHISTLER- British Columbia. CANADA

BANFF National Park- Alberta CANADA

DISNEY WORLD RESORT – Orlando Florida USA (a gift to our son who is now a Member himself)

We are now waiting confirmation for a week’s accommodation at the LAKES DISTRICT in England for next year.

Through the Cruise Centre (Now Accor Vacation Club Travel by Flight Centre) we enjoyed a 7 night Alaskan Cruise. Absolutely wonderful.

We started as Bronze Members but on our first anniversary were offered to upgrade to Silver and have never had a bad experience with the club in the 7 years. Looking to the future we hope to have a week at Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort in WANAKA – NZ in 2012.

The key to getting the holiday of you dreams and use the ‘least amount of points’ is to plan, book early and avoid peak periods.

In the last 6 months, the Club has taken a giant leap forward by introducing online accommodation booking, Flight Centre and of course the Super Savers just to name a few for the use of the Club Members.

So why not achieve your VACATIONS OF A LIFETIME, Instead of dreaming about them.

Sceptics Converted

My lovely wife Jane and I have just returned from another great holiday with the Accor Vacation Club this time to the Sunshine Coast. I cannot believe what value this Club has been to us.

Five years ago we attended a Kris Kristofferson concert at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne. We were staying at the Novotel in St Kilda and had been invited to participate in an Accor Vacation Club presentation the next morning. We decided to attend for all the wrong reasons, free nibbles, a chauffeured limo to the venue and $100 off our accommodation cost for the night! Little did we know it was to lead arguably to one of the best decisions we have ever made.

I attended the presentation armed with a healthy scepticism and the intention to withstand any sales pitch I was sure we were going to get thrown at us. Six hours later I was a member of the Accor Vacation Club still bearing grave doubts that all the promises made to us would be fulfilled. Five years on we are continually amazed that in fact they have been provided way beyond what was guaranteed.

When we joined there were fourteen Club properties and we were advised this number would increase as membership grew, there are now 21 a 33% increase in five years. Our initial financial investment has also increased by a similar amount. I have kept an accurate record of what our accommodation would have cost us if we had booked the same venues as normal holiday makers, and we have already enjoyed over $8000 worth of accommodation in our relatively brief time as members.

We expect to have our initial money back in well under a decade of membership.

Despite only being Silver level Members we have had brilliant holidays at Palm Cove twice, the Sunshine Coast, Coffs Harbour, Surfers Paradise, Mt Lofty House in the Adelaide Hills, Darling Harbour and Daylesford, not to mention nights at the Grand Mercure in Melbourne, our home City. We have already booked for New Zealand in 2011.

When we first joined we assumed that the accommodation would be in hotel style rooms and we may well be treated as second class citizens, the opposite has been the case. We always book one bedroom apartments, all of which have been substantial enough to live in, not just as holiday venues.

Only once have we not been able to get the time we required and the staff have always bent over backwards to suit our needs.

Having said this it needs to be accepted that as Members we need to be flexible with our booking windows. After all, it is the quality time spent with each other that really matters, not the times and destination.

The aspect I have appreciated most is the genuine Club feel that the staff engender, both in Member Services and in the resorts

and hotels we have stayed at. Only once in our time have we had a booking concern and once advised the Club resolved it to

more than our satisfaction. No more can be expected than that.

Another real benefit of the Accor Vacation Club is that it makes you organise holidays. In this ridiculously pressured modern world, far too often we don’t find time for ourselves. Jane and I both run individual small businesses and it is a real trap to become too business focused. Knowing that to benefit from your investment in the Club you need to use the points, Members are forced to look after their own well-being and this is a real positive.

Given all the above, it is clear that we are very happy Members and look forward to many more great years, as will our children after when they get their hands on the membership in the future.

Financially better off

It was great catching up with you at Palm Cove recently. We had a fantastic holiday there and would recommend the resort as a great place to visit.

It’s hard to believe it all started 18 months ago when we stayed at the Grand Mercure The Vines – Swan Valley, Perth for 2 nights on a special deal. One of the conditions was that we attend a presentation which Alison warned me, “Don’t you dare sign up for anything.”

Our plan was to purchase a motor home and travel around Australia.

After listening to the presentation and having answers to our questions met, SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Alison was convincing me to join up and for the following reasons.

1. Financially better off. (Motor Home cost much higher)

2. We get to travel on a regular basis, not only Australia but overseas.

3. We can gift holidays to our children.

4. Can be left to our children in our will as Membership is until 2080.

In the time we have been members we have travelled to New Zealand March 2009 staying at Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort

– Coromandel Peninsula, Hotel St Moritz Queenstown.

In Western Australia we have stayed at Grand Mercure The Vines – Swan Valley, Grand Mercure Basildene Manor – Margaret

River and really enjoyed Grand Mecure Busselton and recently Coral Coast Palm Cove – Cairns

The accomodation has been of a high standard at all the places we have stayed and the staff very friendly and helpful.

We are very very happy with our decision to join Accor Vacation Club and would recommend to anyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

 Palm Cove vacation – Second term holidays – Escape from Melbourne winter

Dear Accor Vacation Club,

Just wanted to drop you a note to say how fantastic our mid winter escape in Palm Cove, Cairns has turned out. We feel we have come to Paradise!

The new apartments are amazing and an absolute delight.

While we watch the nightly TV news with reports of the weather back home in Melbourne, reaching a maximum of 14 degrees, we are lazing around with temperatures of 27 / 28 every single day, in T-shirts, shorts and thongs, with beautiful, warm, clear skies. We feel like we are back in summer.

When we committed to a Platinum Membership early in 2002, we were dubious about the value of this huge investment. We need not have worried and the proof has been in the fabulous holidays that we have taken every single year since.

At the time of our joining, our boys were in primary school and we were not so worried about our holiday scheduling. As the boys have grown, fitting in with school holidays, and not missing the school curriculum has become necessary, which involves competing with everyone else at peak season for a holiday. Thank goodness we have our Accor Vacation Club points and access to a five star holiday every year!

We are small business owners, and work very hard during the year, for many hours and often 7 days a week, so holidays are very precious, valued and hard earned. Consequently, we need them to be “5 star” and luxurious so as to really unwind and recharge for the working months ahead.

Even with the advent of the internet and “hot” online specials, with inflation, the state of the economy and our growing needs and desires, there is no way we could afford to have the standard of holidays nor the duration as we do now with our Accor Vacation Club Membership. Most desirable locations do not have “online” specials at peak times or if they do, they are in such limited numbers, that by the time the airline tickets are organized, if available at all, and once again, if affordable, the accommodation is gone. With our Accor Vacation Club Membership, we know that every year we have a guaranteed top class holiday.

For instance, our current holiday, for 14 days / nights, in Palm Cove, Cairns, in a 3 bedroom unit, would have been simply unaffordable if we had to pay cash for it. Thankfully, we are able to enjoy amazing facilities and everyone has enough space and room to do their own thing or come together and do family things. We can be tourists and do the sites or we can be “veggies” and recover and recuperate from the hard work and cold weather back home in Melbourne. Vitamin D (sunshine) is wonderfully therapeutic!

Since joining, we have increased our Membership level by accepting upgrade offers as we could afford them and are now in a position to have a couple of decent holidays every year – something we could never have contemplated or afforded beforehand.

Thank you once again Accor Vacation Club. Next holiday – Twin Waters!
