A salute to our Commonwealth Games volunteers

Let the Games begin! It’s just one more sleep before the 2018 Commonwealth Games officially commences on the Gold Coast – the largest sporting event held in Australia this decade. With our head office in Robina, and four fantastic Club properties located on the Gold Coast, Accor Vacation Club is truly excited that the event is unfolding in our ‘home town’. Over 11 days of competition (from the 4th to the 15th of April), some 6,500 athletes and team officials will join many holidaymakers from around the nation and overseas for the event. Greeting them will be 15,000 of the finest and friendliest volunteers, who have undertaken an impressive 360,000 hours of training in preparation for April 4. Among them will be two amazing ambassadors from Accor Vacation Club’s Robina head office, assisting as the action unfolds across the track, pool, stadiums and sporting venues. Manisha Ovid will be a volunteer at Carrara Stadium which is holding multiple events including the opening and closing ceremonies. Accor Vacation Club’s Financial Controller Richard Jones is also on board as a volunteer, and will be based at Coolangatta for the Beach volleyball and at Robina for the Rugby Sevens competition. We wish them all the best as they focus on showing off the destination and making the Commonwealth Games an amazing experience for all. For those Members visiting during this busy period, we hope you have a memorable stay.  The Club’s newest property, Mercure Gold Coast Resort, is ideally located at Palm Meadows – in close proximity to Carrara Stadium which will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the games, plus the Athletics events. It joins AVC’s existing addresses - Turtle Beach Resort on Mermaid Beach, Legends Hotel in Surfers Paradise and Freshwater Point Resort at Broadbeach, serving up unforgettable locations and ambiance at our favourite beaches, which will surely impress guests wanting to catch some of the Commonwealth Games action.
